I disagree. The flashback gives a lot of insight, although it makes the story in
the present seem a lot shorter than the story in the past. I haven't watched the
anime, but I heard it was an average series. The manga (unedited) though, is
awesome from first-hand experience.
I don't understand why everyone gripes about the ending. Yeah it's done in n
obtuse style, but if it's closely examined, it is understandable (kinda like
when Neo talks to the Architect in Matrix: Reloaded). But the ending is so much
more satisfactory character-wise than the movie.
Why such the low grade on music? The orchestral pieces were refreshing and the
ending song, the piano arrangement of "Cruel Angel's Thesis" was quite
emotional.
How can you read the "edited" version of the manga? Doesn't it
disgust you that a mature rated manga has been edited down to a teen level comic
for the sole purpose of marketing?
There's a translation of the orginial unedited version going around online for volumes 1-13. I could help anyone who wants it.

I hope you guys know that the manga is horribly edited. And not for the good of the public either, but for pure marketing's sake.
